What do you do when a 2 year old sheds tears and cries in front of you for a candy ? Or a 8 year old argues in a toy store for a gadget he had been wanting for long ?
Don’t we just give in and offer them one ? And instantly the tears vanish and a happy smile appears on those delicate lips . Instantly their red cheeks start appearing whiter and the puffiness in the eyes returns to normal .
Leaves me to ponder as to how nicely kids accept and embrace their emotions . Sad means sad and happy really means happy. There is no pretend in their gesture. So why as we grow up we hide our emotions and cover up for them ? Why turn diplomatic and confuse yourself as well as others ?
Most of the times the so called ‘grown up’s’ teach us not to embrace our feelings. When a child cries most people rush in to say that ‘don’t cry,it’s not good to cry, good children don’t cry etc. This confuses us and we learn that crying is not good. We learn to suppress our emotions and try to SHOW that we are always happy because that is acceptable by the society. If we cannot be true to ourselves , how can we be true to our kids,or to anybody for that matter . Which makes us weak and fragile unable to take a stand for what’s right !
