Mother to Daughter

The most important things are not things.

They are..

Warm enveloping hugs,

Long sweet kisses,

A tuck in the same blanket,

And gazing at the star lit sky.

They are..

A quick giggle together,

Cooking meals for dinner,

A sly wink here and there,

And a never ending story.

They are..

Counting of blessings together,

Sharing an ice cream at the parlour,

Cracking a bad joke,

And teasing the brother.

They are..

Packing for a holiday,

Pizza treats on a Saturday,

A splash in the summer pool,

And a long drive to cool.

They are..

Blowing off candles on the cake,

Wearing a pretty dainty dress,

Sharing of long kept secrets,

And hiding treats under the closet.

They are..

Dancing on her favourite tune,

Munching pop corn every June,

Scrubbing face with orange peels,

And walking with new high heels.

They are..

Shopping for that very dress,

Looking sharp ready to impress,

Saying goodbyes at bus stops,

And blowing wishes non stop.

They are..

A pat on the shoulder counting praises,

A stroll in the garden amidst daises,

Movie night every Saturday,

And saying I LOVE YOU every day.

They are..

Warm oil massages every weekend,

Running fingers in freshly washed hair,

Whisking and baking yummy cakes,

And licking up the batter before it bakes.

They are..

Colouring nails with nail paints,

Braids, pig tails or pony tails,

A dash of lip colour on the lips,

And flaunting those new shiny clips.

They are..

Feeling her presence in every room,

Like the lingering scent of perfume,

As I write, these letters bloom,

Again I feel her in my womb.

After all,

The most important things are not things.

P.S: She does not want a party this year , but I have a surprise treasure hunt, her favourite coffee cake and an animated movie of her choice planned for her once she is back from school tomorrow 🌼
