Jaipur 28-1-2016

Greeted by a nip in the air , Jaipur coloured in different shades of pink welcomes us with an open heart . Love pours in as we meet and greet family members who join together for a brother’s wedding. The Ameer fort and the Hawa Mahal are a delight to watch. The Ameer Fort was built on a hill by the Rajputs.Made with pink sandstone and marble, this fort is a major tourist attraction in Amer,a small town near Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.  the attractive, opulent palace is laid out on four levels, each with a courtyard.  It consists of the Diwan-i-Aam, or “Hall of Public Audience”, the Diwan-i-Khas, or “Hall of Private Audience”, the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), or Jai Mandir, and the Sukh Niwas where a cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over a water cascade within the palace

Hawa Mahal was built for princess Jodha using red and pink stones adorned with coloured glass windows and a spacious courtyard. Since Jodha was a devotee of Lord Krishna, the Hawa Mahal’s architecture is in the form of the lord’s crown or mukut.

Being into jewellery myself I was amazed by the Johari bazar, the way shops are lined up on both sides of the road selling from real Meenakari jewellery to silver wearables. Jaipur is a shopper’s delight too, the colours and prints are so bright intricate yet simple almost everything my eyes lay on attracts me and of course I end up buying a lot. The jaipuri prints on cotton and mul mul are a must buy along with leheriya and bandhani sarees and dupattas. I loved the home décor collection at Ratan’s Jaipur and picked up loads of clothes from Vasansi a famous Jaipur shop for women’s clothing. Meenakari glass bangles, leather juties(shoes) and mouth fresheners are also very popular in Jaipur. Marbles inlay work, painted pottery and kitchen ware were a delight to pick up in Jaipur as souvenirs.

Jaipur needs a special mention for its chats and sweets, yummilicious from the first bite to the last. Rawat’s snacks and sweets are to die for ,the ghewar, phini and the kachories are made in pure ghee and cannot be missed at all. The street food is delicious but beware of your stomach its hot and spicy.

Stay tuned with me to explore Jodhpur,Jaiselmer and Khimsar in my upcoming posts.

Untill then, happiness and sunshine

Nidhi
